Lessons

Hello and welcome to Cuthbert Class. We are Team Cuthbert. Why? Because we all work together to help us be the best we can be. Whether that means working with a partner, in a group in class, helping out around school with jobs, or carrying out our duties as House Captains, school councillors and monitors, we know how important it is to work together.

This also means we get to have great fun together – especially when Trev’s included (although Dobbie, Dipsy and Fang have been known to drop in now and again). Additionally, we enjoy learning and behave well during our lessons as we know this will help us to make fantastic progress!

Throughout the year, we cover all the basic skills in Maths and English to help us prepare for our SATs in May. Using White Rose Maths, we are also improving our reasoning and problems solving skills. This isn’t boring though … we use lots of interesting ways to help everyone learn – by looking, doing or listening – or all three!

As a class, we enjoy all lessons, where we learn and have fun. In English we read every day as we know how important it is. We use Harry Potter a lot as we just LOVE the books. Listening to class novels is also important to use as we enjoy getting to know the characters and finding out what will happen next. We also enjoy dipping in and out of books for comprehension activities. We are lucky enough to have a class library which has a wide range of books – from poetry to graphic novels – along with its own disco light!

Our writing always allows us to use our imagination – from creating our own Hexapod – think Avatar the movie, to writing instructions and reports linked to topics. This helps us widen our vocabulary too.

All subjects are taught throughout the year, using topics for history (we love World War 2 and The Tudors) and geography, to practical work in science, art, DT and PE. It’s none stop!

Overall, we think Cuthbert is a cool class to be in. Here are some photographs of the things we’ve already done this year …
