Lambton class is all about learning, working hard, trying our best and having fun.
We start the day with English. In English we have been recognising different word classes (in particular nouns, verbs and adjectives), learning how to punctuate sentences correctly, creating our own set of instructions and we are now working towards retelling the story of the Stone Age boy. After finishing Stone Age boy we will then begin working from the short story called Pirate Cruncher where we will aim to develop so great pieces of descriptive writing.
When maths finishes, we then have a 15-minute break. When we return from break we do “flashback 4” which is where we take 4 questions that the children have previously answered from the maths curriculum work through them as a class. This has been great for improving the retention levels of the children. We then move in to a 10-minute times tables session to help recap and develop our understanding. We are currently working on the three times tables. Finally, we then start maths where we will be focusing on Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication, solving word problems and a brief insight in to fractions.
For our afternoon session we have a range of topics we will be focusing on. In science we have been learning about the human boy and the usefulness of the skeleton. We are currently conducting our own experiment to see if people with bigger femurs can jump further.
In History we have been learning about the Stone Age era. We have looked at the differences between their time and ours, the different lifestyles that everyone had and the historical landmarks that are still in the world today. The children recently enjoyed creating their own travel broacher to Stonehenge.
In Design and Technology we are trying to make our own juggling ball. We have just tie-dyed a cloth which we intend to fill with rice and wrap in to a ball. The children will then have to stich together the cloth to hold the rice inside and act as a ball.
In ICT we have been using Turtle Logo and scratch to draw a range on images. The children recently learned how to change their sprite, background and size of their image. They are now creating a drawing of a house which need a lot of commands.
