Pelton children continue to develop their learning skills moving from a topic-based Foundation Stage curriculum to following the requirements of the National Curriculum. Children learn through a balance of adult led directed tasks and small group times and child-initiated play activities.
Our day begins at 8.30am with short Mental Maths lesson before Assembly. We then have an hours phonics lesson, followed by Maths and English. The remaining part of the day we explore other subjects. PE and Art are always favourites in our class.
Year 1 children will have a reading book, homework and library book. We ask that you listen to your child read as often as you can and comment on their reading at least twice a week in their reading record book. Reading books are usually changed twice a week. We also encourage children to read the book several times.
