Welcome to Penshaw Class! We are a friendly and positive group who love to show off what we have been learning. We work hard, help each other and look forward to our weekly ‘Starbooks’ sessions where we get to enjoy reading, Starbucks style! In Penshaw, you’ll find laughter, determination and welcoming smiles. We love our Golden Time on a Friday afternoon, creating our own clubs where we teach each other different languages and skills.
What does a day in Penshaw look like?
08:35-08:45 – Morning activity. These range from working on our weekly Times Table Focus, some Handwriting linking with our weekly focus Spellings, Basic Skills or Maths Fluency practice.
08:45 – 09:00 – Assembly. During assembly, some children work with an adult in small groups to focus on target areas or some pre-learning before we begin our whole class learning.
09:00 – 10:00 – English. We love to be creative in English, looking at different genres of writing, their features and linking with our Class Novel. We link our features with SPaG focuses and bring it all together in an extended piece of writing to match the genre at the end of the unit of learning.
10:00 – 10:15 – Break Time. Time to play with our friends and for our teachers to grab a biscuit!
10:15 – 11:15 – Maths. We follow White Rose Maths where we work in small steps as a class. We have loads of fun in Maths, always explaining ‘Why’ and using our Grab and Go resources to help us. We work really hard to change our mindset when we find it tricky, using our favourite word of ‘YET’ if someone thinks they can’t do it.
11:15-11:45 – Skills Session. In these sessions we focus on different skills such as; Reading, Times Tables, Handwriting, Spelling/Grammar and Arithmetic.
11:45 – 12:15 – Skills Session including ICT. This is where we get to use technology to develop our skills further. We use online programmes such as EdShed, Lexia, Times Tables Rockstars and Sumdog.
12:15 – 13:00 – Lunch time!
13:00 – 14:45 – Foundation Subjects. Our afternoons are spent looking at our foundation subjects like Computing, History, Geography and RE. We love our whole afternoon of Science, where we get to carry out investigations, predicting outcomes and understanding the results!
14:45-15:00 – Class Novel! We end every day listening to our class novel.
