European Christmas Card Exchange
Children from Waldridge class have been making friends with children from 29 different European countries, by taking part in the European Christmas Card Exchange. Our children made tree decorations and leaflets about our school to send to other countries and we have received 29 in return. This has been a fantastic international project for the children to take part in.

Spring News

July 12, 2017 by admin

We were delighted to receive a letter from the DFE in London congratulating us on our school results. We are in the top 3% of schools in England for the progress our pupils make in reading, writing and maths. This is because of the hard work and commitment of our staff and pupils. Fantastic news!

It was lovely to see so many families have lunch together at our Nursery ‘café’ and Mother’s Day lunches. It was very well supported and thanks go to the Nursery staff, and Linzi and staff in the kitchen, for all their hard work on those days.

Well done to all children who completed the Bear Grylls Orienteering Challenge. Please try and collect all sponsor money over the holidays and bring it in as soon as possible. Thank you.

The children and staff (!) in Nursery have had a fabulous time watching the chicks hatch. They were kept in an incubator, then a brooding box and have been enjoyed by everyone!

A huge well done to all children, and thank you to the many Parents/Carers that took part in egg decorating. There were so many brilliant ideas; it was difficult to decide upon the winners!

Our Big Breakfast was very well attended last month. Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed a healthy breakfast with their child/ren.

All children have received a ‘fob’ to play ‘Beat the Street,’ the fun, free real-life walking and cycling game. The more Beat Boxes tapped the more points you will receive! Beat the Street is for everyone, and there are many prizes to be won!

We raised just under £200 for Comic Relief. Thanks go to those children who came to school dressed in their pyjamas, something red or both!

Ten children visited Adelaide, Sydney and Cairns and soaked up a wide variety of cultural visits and new opportunities.

These included: An Aborigine Park, Wildlife Park, Sydney Opera House, Snorkelling, Surfing and Boomerang throwing.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Lloyd and the staff who accompanied her for organising such a wonderful trip.

Author Visit

Children in Penshaw class have been reading the books of children’s author Antony Wootten. Last Friday, Antony came into school to do workshops with the class. They enjoyed creative writing and making up their own limericks. Everyone including the staff had a very enjoyable day.

Safer Internet Day

As Tuesday 7th February was Safer Internet Day, assemblies and many lessons last week were related to keeping safe online. Parents are encouraged to check closely what their children are doing online to ensure that they are not talking to strangers or giving out personal information.

Cross Country

Well done to all pupils who took part in the cross-country race at our school at the end of January. Congratulations in particular go to Hannah Ward and Alisha Mason who came 7th and 8th out of over 100 runners. Harvey Reeve was our first boy finished closely followed by Ellis Rodger.

Thanks also go to Mr Hood and many members of staff who gave up their Saturday morning to set up the course and support the team.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream coat!

Multi-Skills Clubs

Two different multi-skills clubs have been running this term. One for children in Y1/2 and the other for children in Y3/4. Both were very well attended and enjoyed by all

Football

Mr Ferguson has been continuing to coach the boy’s football team each week ready for the season starting again in March.
